On 27 November, representatives of the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Office conducted an inspection of the educational process and living conditions in the Republican Specialized  Children’s home in Donetsk.

The institution educates orphans and children deprived of parental care, as well as children with disabilities and mental development disorders under the age of four. Currently, 95 children live here.

The Children’s home has two buildings, which are maintained and heated in an appropriate way. In the adjacent territory, there are playgrounds.

In the first building, children live in separate blocks with dressing rooms and bedrooms, as well as household rooms.  The dining units have the necessary kitchen equipment. There are halls for musical lessons, physical training lessons, exercise therapy and playrooms.  In the physiotherapy department, there are rooms for electrotherapy, light therapy, heat therapy and inhalation.

The other building has a 24-hour department of medical and social rehabilitation of children who have health problems. There is an exercise therapy hall for children with central nervous system disorders, cerebral paralysis and other disorders.    There are baby walkers, standing frames and other equipment for improvement of health. Pedagogues, speech therapists, psychologists and other specialized professionals ensure psychological relief and social adaptation of the children. On the first floor, there is a dining unit that has all the necessary equipment.  Nutritionists control the quality of food commodities and ready meals as well as compliance with recipes and cooking technology and provide adequate nutrition.

Pedagogues (educators, disability specialists, speech therapists, psychologists and music teachers) are responsible for upbringing and educating the children. The number of students there accounts for 7-16. Paediatricians, medical workers and educators care for the children.  The education is focused on the cognitive-verbal, social and personal, artistic and aesthetic development of pupils.

The music halls have all necessary equipment and musical instruments to organise festive events.  The institution has created favourable conditions that are made as home-like as possible, promoting the physical, mental, creative and emotional development of the individual.

Education and living environment for children in the Republican Specialized  Children’s home in Donetsk received a positive assessment from the inspectors.

DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova expressed gratitude to the administration and staff of the facility for faithful implementation of their duties.
