Representatives of the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Office conducted an inspection of the educational process and living conditions in Donetsk Social Centre of City Administration of Donetsk.
Currently, 52 children aged from three years old who find themselves in a difficult life situation are staying in the facility around-the-clock. Children are provided with comprehensive social, psychological, educational, medical, legal and other types of assistance.
The social centre is located in a two-story building that is properly heated and has all the necessary facilities. There are separate bedrooms for boys and girls, the sleeping-berth capacity meets the established standards. The centre also has playrooms for each age group of children, an independent study room for students, a gym with wall bars, exercise equipment, table tennis and other sports equipment. Pupils have meals, including diet meals, in a canteen, which meets the established standards. There is a laundry in the social centre. The children are provided with all necessary hygiene products, clothes and footwear, school supplies, rucksacks and books.
Staff of the social centre look after children 24hours. The pupils attend secondary schools and other education institutions accompanied by their educators. Four medical specialists monitor the students’ physical welfare: a paediatrician, two nurses and a nutritionist. In addition, two practical psychologists, a social care teacher, a counsellor and a legal advisor work in the institution. Social and pedagogical correction is carried out based on individual needs of each child. It is aimed at teaching values to children to avoid antisocial behaviour. Also, the specialists assist in reintegration to the family.
There is a library in the institution. The playrooms have everything necessary for quality leisure-time activities. The students are actively involved in events and competitions designed to promote personal development. For this, 12 hobby groups have been formed: musical, dancing, creative activities etc. Special attention is devoted to patriotic education.
As a result of the inspection, education and living environment for children in the Donetsk Social Centre received a positive assessment from the staff of DPR Ombudsman Office.
