Representatives of the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Office conducted an inspection of the educational process and living conditions in the Torez Special Boarding School No.43. At the moment, 120 children in need of rehabilitation regarding their physical or mental development live there, including 1 child from the territory temporarily under control of Ukraine, who have been enrolled to the institution under the Humanitarian Programme for the Reunification of the Donbass People.

The institution has five blocks. The main block has administrative rooms and classrooms, bedrooms and a playroom, a library, a music and sports hall, a medical unit, rooms of a psychologist, a speech therapist, rooms for rhythmic classes, aromatherapy, social adaptation, religions studies and a room dedicated to student’s achievements. Another block has workshops for joinery, plastering, farming, bookbinding, sewing and shoemaking classes.  The sleeping block of the Primary School is for students of 1-4 forms. It also has a reception class and a music hall.  A separate block has a dining unit with a canteen for 120 pupils and a kitchen.  There is a block for a laundry, a boiler house, a garage for vehicles owned by the School and used for transporting children. Outside there is a football field and a playground.

The institution educates children from 1st to 9th form, as well as children in a reception class. The educational process is adapted for children with special educational needs. It is noteworthy that the school uses unique education programmes and guidance papers, which had won awards and certificates.

Special attention is devoted to vocational education, spiritual and moral development, as well as prevention measures and treatment-and-prophylactic work, and psychological support of the students and their parents.

The pupils take active part in sports competitions and creative contests, including the Republic-wide ones. Also, the Boarding School has its own music band.

As a result of the inspection, education and living environment for children in the Torez Special Boarding School No. 43 received a positive assessment from the staff of DPR Ombudsman Office.
