The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development was established by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in 1985. On this day, thematic events designed to encourage citizens to volunteer in various fields are held.

The volunteer movement all over the world unites tens of thousands of people and many humanitarian organizations that provide assistance to vulnerable categories of people, as well as to people in difficult life situations. Often such activities are of international nature, which is especially important for citizens affected by natural and man-made disasters, as well as armed conflicts.

Thanks to volunteers, who assisted the population of Donbass, where the military confrontation continues for five years, a humanitarian catastrophe has been avoided. The Russian Federation plays a special role. It helped save thousands of lives in the most dramatic moments in the life of the Donetsk People’s Republic and continues to provide assistance up to now.

The Human Rights Ombudsman in the Donetsk People’s Republic is very grateful to volunteers for their assistance in socially significant issues. The assistance included organizing treatment and rehabilitation of persons injured as a result of hostilities, recreation and rehabilitation of children, humanitarian support for affected citizens, and much more.

Volunteering reveals the best human qualities: unselfishness and kindness, dedication to serving the people and commitment to the highest ideals of humanism. The activities of volunteers inspire and give hope to millions of people who need support.
